Warming yáng and disinhibiting dampness

温阳利湿 〔溫陽利濕〕wēn yáng lì shī

Also promoting qì transformation and disinhibiting water. A method of treatment used to address yáng qì obstructed by water-cold causing inhibited urination. When a patient has internal collection of water-damp and cold in the exterior, yáng qì is blocked by water-cold, causing inhibited urination, headache, mild heat effusion, heart vexation, thirst, vomiting of ingested fluids, a slimy white tongue fur and a floating pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Use Poria Five Powder (五苓散 wǔ líng sǎn), which makes use of cinnamon twig (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 桂枝 guì zhī) to warm yáng and promote qì transformation, and Poria Four Powder (四苓散 sì líng sǎn) to move dampness and disinhibit water.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on CV, back transport points, SP, and ST. Select BL-11 (Great Shuttle, 大杼 dà zhù), LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), CV-9 (Water Divide, 水分 shuǐ fēn), BL-22 (Triple Burner Transport, 三焦俞 sān jiāo shù), SP-9 (Yīn Mound Spring, 阴陵泉 yīn líng quán) and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with drainage.
