Vessel impediment

脉痹 〔脈痹〕mài bì

Also heat impediment. Impediment () characterized by irregular heat effusion, palpable heat and pain in the flesh, and sometimes red patches on the skin; attributed to wind-damp stagnating in the vessels. Distinction is made between vacuity and repletion, the former being treated with Five Impediments Decoction (五痹汤 wǔ bì tāng) plus cinnamon twig (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 桂枝 guì zhī), carthamus (Carthami Flos, 红花 hóng huā), root poria (Poria cum Pini Radice, 茯神 fú shén), polygala (Polygalae Radix, 远志 yuǎn zhì), and ophiopogon (Ophiopogonis Radix, 麦门冬 mài mén dōng), and the latter with Ginseng Decoction (人参汤 rén shēn tāng).
