Cholera cramps

霍乱转筋 〔霍亂轉筋〕huò luàn zhuǎn jīn

Also leg-hoisting sand. Cramps occurring when vomiting and diarrhea in cholera (sudden turmoil) causes fulminant loss of fluids and damage to qì and yīn, thereby depriving the sinews of nourishment. Contraction of the legs in severe cases may be accompanied by hypertonicity of the abdomen, retracted scrotum and curled tongue.

Medicinal therapy: Determine whether the condition is heat cholera or cold cholera. Use formulas such as Chaenomeles Decoction (木瓜汤 mù guā tāng) or Center-Rectifying Decoction (理中汤 lǐ zhōng tāng), or administer one (rice) bowl of fresh lablab leaf (Lablab Folium, 扁豆叶 biǎn dòu yè) juice obtained by crushing and squeezing. Crushed garlic can be applied at the heart of the soles of the feet.

Acumoxatherapy: Apply treatments for heat or cold cholera, and needle with drainage at GB-34 (Yáng Mound Spring, 阳陵泉 yáng líng quán), BL-57 (Mountain Support, 承山 chéng shān), GB-38 (Yáng Assistance, 阳辅 yáng fǔ), SP-3 (Supreme White, 太白 tài bái), SP-2 (Great Metropolis, 大都 dà dū), LR-4 (Mound Center, 中封 zhōng fēng), and BL-60 (Kunlun Mountains, 昆仑 kūn lún); for severe cases, add moxa.
