Surging mounting

冲疝 〔衝疝〕chōng shàn

A form of mounting disease, described in Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn, gǔ kōng lùn) as follows: The governing vessel (dū mài)... in this arises a disease in which there is surging from the lesser abdomen into the heart with pain and inability to defecate or urinate, which is surging mounting. This arises mostly when cold-damp evil lying depressed turns into heat and when cold evil is additionally contracted. The signs are lesser abdominal pain stretching into the testicles, with qì surging up in to the heart, and inhibited urine and defection.

Medicinal therapy: Rectify qì and disperse cold. Use Tiantai Lindera Powder (天台乌药散 tiān tái wū yào sǎn) plus rust (Robigo, 铁锈 tiě xiù). For severe cases, use Water Controller Yu Powder (禹功散 yǔ gōng sǎn) plus blast-fried ginger (Zingiberis Rhizoma Praeparatum, 炮姜 páo jiāng), unripe bitter orange (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 枳实 zhǐ shí), and unripe tangerine peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, 青皮 qīng pí).
