Stirring fetus

胎动不安 〔胎動不安〕tāi dòng bù ān

A disease pattern chiefly characterized by movement of the fetus, pain and sagging sensation in the abdomen, and, in severe cases, discharge of blood from the vagina; a sign of possible or impending miscarriage; can be caused by knocks and falls, qì vacuity, blood vacuity, kidney vacuity, or blood heat causing thoroughfare (chōng) and controlling (rèn) vessels.

Patterns

Knocks and falls (跌打 dié dǎ) causes sudden stirring fetus with aching lumbus and smaller abdominal pain.

Medicinal therapy: Supplement qì, nourish the blood, and quiet the fetus with Ass Hide Glue and Mugwort Four Agents Decoction (胶艾四物汤 jiāo ài sì wù tāng).

Qì vacuity (气虚 qì xū) stirring fetus is accompanied by listlessness of essence-spirit, scantness of breath, and laziness to speak.

Medicinal therapy: Supplement qì and quiet the spirit with Origin-Lifting Brew (举元煎 jǔ yuán jiān) plus ass hide glue (Asini Corii Colla, 阿胶 ē jiāo).

Blood vacuity (血虚 xuè xū) causes stirring fetus with pale yellow facial complexion, lassitude of spirit, and lack of strength.

Medicinal therapy: Supplement the blood and quiet the fetus with Fetal Origin Beverage (胎元饮 tāi yuán yǐn).

Kidney vacuity (肾虚 shèn xū) stirring fetus is accompanied by dizzy head, tinnitus, limp legs, and frequent urination.

Medicinal therapy: Secure the kidney and quiet the fetus with Fetal Longevity Pill (寿胎丸 shòu tāi wán).

Blood heat (血热 xuè rè) stirring fetus is associated with dry mouth and throat and with heart vexation.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat, cool the blood, and quiet the fetus with Yīn-Safeguarding Brew (保阴煎 bǎo yīn jiān).
