Static blood streaming sore

瘀血流注 〔瘀血流注〕yū xuè liú zhù

A streaming sore that arises after knocks or falls or incomplete elimination of the lochia have caused stasis in the network vessels and damp-heat exploits vacuity to enter the body and combine with the stasis. A static blood streaming sore in the initial stage is characterized by local swelling that is hard and painful to the touch. The affected area is marked by slightly red or green-blue to purple skin that subsequently becomes red and scorching hot. The affected area spreads outward, and signs such as aversion to cold, heat effusion, and joint pain develop. If the process through suppuration to rupture is smooth, prognosis is good.

Medicinal therapy: Move qì, quicken the blood, and resolve toxin. Use Stasis-Dispersing Pueraria Decoction (散瘀葛根汤 sàn yū gé gēn tāng). If caused by postpartum static blood, use variations Channel-Freeing Stagnation-Abducting Decoction (通经导滞汤 tōng jīng dǎo zhì tāng). When pus has formed, open and drain. Otherwise treat as for welling-abscesses yōng and flat-abscesses that have ruptured.
