Slowness to stand

立迟 〔立遲〕 lì chí

One of the five slownesses. Slowness of infants in learning to stand erect. Infants normally learn to stand within their first year. Failure to be able to stand erect after this time is called slowness to stand. It may be due to such factors as liver-kidney vacuity or poor feeding affecting the development of the sinew and bone and causing limpness of the knee and lower leg.

Medicinal therapy: Ensure correct diet; supplement the liver and kidney with formulas such as Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill (六味地黄丸 liù wèi dì huáng wán) plus lycium berry (Lycii Fructus, 枸杞子 gǒu qǐ zǐ) and deerhorn glue (Cervi Cornus Gelatinum, 鹿角胶 lù jiǎo jiāo).
