Qì vacuity heat

气虚热 〔氣虛熱〕qì xū rè

1. A heat pattern due to qì vacuity. Qì vacuity heat usually stems from spleen-stomach qì vacuity or spleen-lung qì vacuity and arising when dietary irregularities or taxation fatigue causes damage to the spleen and stomach. It is characterized by generalized heat, heart vexation, spontaneous sweating and aversion to cold, headache, fatigue and laziness to speak, panting and lack of strength at the slightest exertion, and a large vacuous surging pulse.

Medicinal therapy: Eliminate heat with warmth and sweetness. Use Center-Supplementing Qì-Boosting Decoction (补中益气汤 bǔ zhōng yì qì tāng) or variations of Eight-Gem Decoction (八珍汤 bā zhēn tāng).

2. Heat effusion due to summerheat-damp damaging qì, and associated with fatigued cumbersome limbs, fatigued essence-spirit, heart vexation, hasty breathing, thirst, spontaneous sweating, yellow urine, and a vacuous pulse. If summerheat-heat evil wears qì and damages fluid, there is generalized fever and vacuity pulse, spontaneous sweating, and more pronounced vexation and thirst.

Medicinal therapy: Clear summerheat-heat; boost qì and engender liquid. Use Wáng’s Summerheat-Clearing Qì-Boosting Decoction (王氏清暑益气汤 wáng shì qīng shǔ yì qì tāng).
