Qì failing to contain the blood

气不摄血 〔氣不攝血〕qì bù shè xuè

Qì failing to ensure that blood flows within the vessels, giving rise to blood loss. Qì failing to contain the blood is usually related to enduring illness damaging the spleen and giving rise to insufficiency of center qì. When there is qì vacuity fall, blood flows down with the qì (this is often called blood falling with qì), giving rise to bloody stool, bloody urine, or flooding and spotting. In addition, vacuous qì failing to control the blood can allow blood to leave its regular channels, spill out of the vessels, and seep out through the interstices, giving rise to subcutaneous hemorrhage or purple macules. See spleen failing to control blood.
