Putrefying clove sore

烂丁 〔爛丁〕làn dīng

A sore, usually located on the hands or feet, that results from an open wound or from damp-heat fire toxin steaming the skin and that is characterized initially by local distension and pain and a dark red coloration, with water swelling of the affected limb, and a blister or blisters that exude pale brown fluid on rupturing, leaving festering pitted lesions surrounded by purple-black skin. In severe cases, there is high fever, headache, clouded spirit, and delirious speech.

Medicinal therapy: Putrefying clove sores are treated by clearing heat, resolving toxin, and disinihbiting dampness, using formulas such as variations of combinations of Coptis Toxin-Resolving Decoction (黄连解毒汤 huáng lián jiě dú tāng), Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction (犀角地黄汤 xī jiǎo dì huáng tāng), Mysterious Three Pill (三妙丸 sān miào wán).
