Postpartum loss of voice

产后瘖 〔產後瘖〕 chǎn hòu yīn

A thready hoarse voice occurring after childbirth. Postpartum loss of voice is attributed to dual vacuity of the heart and kidney, binding depression of spleen qì (spleen qì vacuity and inhibited movement of qì), or dual vacuity of qì and blood.

Medicinal therapy: When attributed to dual vacuity of the heart and kidney, use Seven-Gem Powder (七珍散 qī zhēn sǎn). When due to binding depression of spleen qì, use Spleen-Returning Decoction (归脾汤 guī pí tāng). When due to dual vacuity of qì and blood, use Eight-Gem Decoction (八珍汤 bā zhēn tāng). Postpartum loss of voice is not necessarily directly related to childbirth. For other patterns, see loss of voice.
