Point joining
透穴 〔透穴〕tòu xué
To insert an acupuncture needle (usually by transverse insertion) so that it passes through two or more points. For example, ST-4 (Earth Granary, 地仓 dì cāng) joined to ST-6 (Cheek Carriage, 颊车 jiá chē) treats deviation of the mouth; ST-38 (Ribbon Opening, 条口 tiáo kǒu) joined to BL-57 (Mountain Support, 承山 chéng shān) treats shoulder pain and inability to lift the shoulder; TB-5 (Outer Pass, 外关 wài guān) joined to PC-6 (Inner Pass, 内关 nèi guān), treats elbow and arm pain; GB-40 (Hill Ruins, 丘墟 qiū xū) joined to KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi) treats ankle pain.
