Boosting qì and resolving the exterior

益气解表 〔益氣解表〕yì qì jiě biǎo

Also supplementing qì and resolving the exterior. A method of treatment used to address continual common colds and copious sweat from qì vacuity that increases vulnerability to external evils and reduces the body’s ability to expel an evil once it has entered. In such cases, qì-boosting medicinals may be combined with exterior-resolving medicinals. An example of such a formula is Ginseng and Perilla Beverage (参苏饮 shēn sū yǐn), which contains codonopsis (Codonopsis Radix, 党参 dǎng shēn), white perilla leaf (Perillae Albae Folium, 白苏叶 bái sū yè), pueraria (Puerariae Radix, 葛根 gé gēn), peucedanum (Peucedani Radix, 前胡 qián hú), ginger pinellia (Pinelliae Tuber cum Zingibere Praeparatum, 姜半夏 jiāng bàn xià), tangerine peel (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 陈皮 chén pí), platycodon (Platycodonis Radix, 桔梗 jié gěng), poria (Poria, 茯苓 fú líng), costusroot (Aucklandiae Radix, 木香 mù xiāng), bitter orange (Aurantii Fructus, 枳壳 zhǐ ké), and licorice (Glycyrrhizae Radix, 甘草 gān cǎo).

Acumoxatherapy: Use points given under exterior resolution in combination with qì-boosting points such as ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), BL-20 (Spleen Transport, 脾俞 pí shù), BL-21 (Stomach Transport, 胃俞 wèi shù), and LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān). Needle with supplementation, and for pronounced qì vacuity, add moxa.
