Oblique insertion
斜刺 〔斜刺〕xié cì
Also slanted insertion. Insertion of a needle at roughly 45°.
Application: Oblique insertion is appropriate where the flesh is thin or where an internal organ lies beneath the point; hence it is commonly used on the chest and back. Oblique insertion is also used for moving qì in a particular direction. See directional supplementation and drainage.
