Mountain forest miasmic qì

山岚瘴气 〔山嵐瘴氣〕 shān lán zhàng qì

Also mountain forest miasmic toxin.

1. A qì (vaporous exhalation) given off by putrescent matter in damp mountain forest areas and held to be one cause of malaria. It is of note that miasma was formerly regarded in the West as a cause of malaria.
