Metal gān
金疳 〔金疳〕 jīn gān
A disease of the white of the eye (white part of the eye surrounding the iris) attributed to intense lung heat and characterized by the appearance of gray-white blister-like granules surrounded by red threads (visible blood vessels) and associated with dryness and discomfort of the eyes, aversion to light, and tearing.
Biomedical correspondence: phlyctenular conjunctivitis.
Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and drain the lung using mulberry root bark (Mori Cortex, 桑白皮 sāng bái pí), alisma (Alismatis Rhizoma, 泽泻 zé xiè), scrophularia (Scrophulariae Radix, 玄参 xuán shēn), licorice (Glycyrrhizae Radix, 甘草 gān cǎo), ophiopogon (Ophiopogonis Radix, 麦门冬 mài mén dōng), scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩 huáng qín), inula flower (Inulae Flos, 旋覆花 xuán fù huā), chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemi Flos, 菊花 jú huā), lycium root bark (Lycii Cortex, 地骨皮 dì gǔ pí), platycodon (Platycodonis Radix, 桔梗 jié gěng), and white poria (Poria Alba, 白茯苓 bái fú líng).
