Lung cough

肺咳 〔肺咳〕fèi ké

lung channel cough. Cough with noisy panting, and, in severe cases, coughing of blood. When due to contraction of external cold, it can be treated with Ephedra Decoction (麻黄汤 má huáng tāng). When attributable to lung vacuity with fire, it can be treated with White-Draining Powder (泻白散 xiè bái sǎn) plus scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩 huáng qín).

Acumoxatherapy: When due to external cold, see wind-cold cough. When due to lung vacuity with fire, base treatment mainly on LU, KI, and back transport points. Select BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), BL-43 (Gāo-Huāng Transport, 膏肓俞 gāo huāng shù), LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé), and KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi); needle with supplementation.

Point selection according to signs: For spitting of blood, add LU-6 (Collection Hole, 孔最 kǒng zuì).

See organ cough.
