Liver depression rib-side pain

肝郁胁痛 〔肝鬱脅痛〕gān yù xié tòng

Rib-side pain attributable to depressed liver qì, usually stemming from anger, sorrow, or grief. Pain in both rib-sides may be accompanied by glomus blockage in the chest and diaphragm, hypertonicity of sinews, heaviness of the lumbus and legs. In severe cases, the pain may be unbearable and stretch into the armpits. The rib-side pain may be accompanied by vexation, agitation, and pronounced irascibility.

Medicinal therapy: Treat by resolving depression and rectifying qì; complement by discharging depressed fire for depressed qì transforming into fire. Use Toosendan Powder (金铃子散 jīn líng zǐ sǎn) or Moutan and Gardenia Free Wanderer Powder (丹栀逍遥散 dān zhī xiāo yáo sǎn). Compare liver qì rib-side pain.
