Toosendan Powder
金铃子散 〔金鈴子散〕jīn líng zǐ sǎn

Ingredients:
- Jīn líng zǐ (金铃子 Toosendan Fructus, toosendan [fruit]) 9–12g
- Yán hú suǒ (延胡索 Corydalis Rhizoma, corydalis [rhizome]) 9–12g
Action: Courses the liver and discharges heat; moves qì and relieves pain.
Indication: Depressed liver qì with liver fire, characterized by rib-side, stomach, and abdominal pain; mounting qì (shàn qì); abdominal pain during menstruation. Tongue: Red with yellow fur. Pulse: Stringlike or rapid.

Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Chuān liàn zǐ is the main agent because it not only moves qì and resolves depression, but also clears and drains liver fire. Yán hú suǒ, the minister agent, moves qì and quickens the blood, thereby helping to relieve pain. This formula treats any form of pain that arises when the liver fails in its orderly reaching,
and qì and blood stagnate, and depressed heat binds internally.
