Internal damage by the seven affects

内伤七情 〔內傷七情〕nèi shāng qī qíng

Also affect damage. Damage to yīn, yáng, qì, and blood, etc., by excesses of the seven affects (joy, anger, worry, thought, sorrow, fear, and fright). Powerful or lasting emotions and certain mental activities can damage yīn, yáng, qì, blood, and eventually the bowels and viscera. Plain Questions (素问 sù wèn) describes the effect of six of the affects specifically on qì.
