Heat sore

热疮 〔熱瘡〕rè chuāng

A sore on the lips, at the corners of the mouth, or around the nose, composed of a cluster of vesicles the size and shape of millet seeds or rice beans and containing fluid that is initially clear and progressively turbid. A heat sore, which may be associated with itching or burning pain, usually clears within a week, but easily occurs again. It is attributable to externally contracted heat or upward steaming lung-stomach heat.

Medicinal therapy: Clear heat and disperse wind. Use formulas such as Magnolia Flower Lung-Clearing Powder (辛夷清肺散 xīn yí qīng fèi sǎn) as oral medication and applying Coptis Paste (黄连膏 huáng lián gāo) topically.

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on LI, LR, ST, and LU. Select LI-4 (Union Valley, 合谷 hé gǔ), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), ST-44 (Inner Court, 内庭 nèi tíng), ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ), LR-2 (Moving Between, 行间 xíng jiān), and LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé); needle with drainage. Prick LU-11 (Lesser Shang, 少商 shào shāng) and ST-45 (Severe Mouth, 厉兑 lì duì) to bleed.
