A method of treatment used to address stoppage of yáng qì due to cold-damp obstruction or congealing phlegm and stasis obstruction. Examples of freeing yáng include: a) treating chest impedimentxiōng bì due to phlegm turbidity obstruction with Trichosanthes, Chinese Chive, and White Wine Decoction (栝楼薤白白酒汤guā lóu xiè bái bái jiǔ tāng); b) treating dampness obstructing the triple burner in damp warm disease using Three Kernels Decoction (三仁汤sān rén tāng); c) treating phlegm turbidity and stasis obstructing chest yáng causing gripping heart pain (angina pectoris) using Storax Pill (苏合香丸sū hé xiāng wán) or Sudden Smile Powder (失笑散shī xiào sǎn); or d) treating counterflow reversal cold of the limbs with Chinese Angelica Counterflow Cold Decoction (当归四逆汤dāng guī sì nì tāng).
