Epidemic malaria

疫疟 〔疫瘧〕yì nüè

A contagious form of malaria occurring in specific areas. Epidemic malaria is characterized by aversion to cold alternating with baking heat [effusion] and copious sweating and by thirst and oppression in the chest. When damp-heat signs are pronounced, there is thirst without desire to drink and incomplete sweating. In severe cases, there may be clouded spirit.

Medicinal therapy: Repel foulness and eliminate dampness. Use Membrane-Source–Opening Beverage (达原饮 dá yuán yǐn) or Priceless Qì-Righting Powder (不换金正气散 bù huàn jīn zhèng qì sǎn). For pronounced damp-heat, treat by clearing heat and transforming dampness with Sweet Dew Toxin-Dispersing Elixir (甘露消毒丹 gān lù xiāo dú dān). For high fever and clouded spirit, use Purple Snow Elixir (紫雪丹 zǐ xuě dān).
