Simultaneous vacuity of both the lung and kidney. Distinction is made between lung-kidney yīn vacuity and lung qì vacuity with kidney yáng vacuity. Lung-kidney yīn vacuity is characterized by cough, night sweating, vexing heat in the five hearts, tidal heat, and seminal emission. Lung qì vacuity with kidney yáng vacuity is characterized by cough, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, fear of cold, cold limbs, and in some cases swelling.
Medicinal therapy: For lung-kidney yīn vacuity, use Lily Bulb Metal-Securing Decoction (百合固金汤bǎi hé gù jīn tāng) or Ophiopogon and Rehmannia Pill (麦味地黄丸mài wèi dì huáng wán). For lung qì vacuity with kidney yáng vacuity, use Golden Cabinet Kidney Qì Pill (金匮肾气丸jīn guì shèn qì wán) combined with Lung-Supplementing Decoction (补肺汤bǔ fèi tāng).
Acumoxatherapy: For lung-kidney yīn vacuity, base treatment mainly on back transport points, LU, and KI. Select BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), BL-43 (Gāo-Huāng Transport, 膏肓俞 gāo huāng shù), LU-5 (Cubit Marsh, 尺泽 chǐ zé), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), and KI-6 (Shining Sea, 照海 zhào hǎi); needle with supplementation. For lung qì vacuity with kidney yáng vacuity, base treatment mainly on back transport points, LU, KI, and CV. Select BL-13 (Lung Transport, 肺俞 fèi shù), BL-23 (Kidney Transport, 肾俞 shèn shù), BL-43 (Gāo-Huāng Transport, 膏肓俞 gāo huāng shù), GV-4 (Life Gate, 命门 mìng mén), CV-6 (Sea of Qì, 气海 qì hǎi), CV-4 (Pass Head, 关元 guān yuán), LU-9 (Great Abyss, 太渊 tài yuān), KI-3 (Great Ravine, 太溪 tài xī), and ST-36 (Leg Three Lǐ, 足三里 zú sān lǐ); needle with supplementation and large amounts of moxa.
