Drying dampness with cold and bitterness

苦寒燥湿 〔苦寒燥濕〕kǔ hán zào shī

A method of treatment used to eliminate damp-heat causing gastrointestinal damp-heat signs such as abdominal pain, abdominal distension, thin hot putrid-smelling stool, and a yellow slimy tongue fur. Commonly used cold bitter dampness-drying medicinals include coptis (Coptidis Rhizoma, 黄连 huáng lián), scutellaria (Scutellariae Radix, 黄芩 huáng qín), phellodendron (Phellodendri Cortex, 黄柏 huáng bǎi), bitter orange (Aurantii Fructus, 枳壳 zhǐ ké), and polyporus (Polyporus, 猪苓 zhū líng).
