燥湿和胃 〔燥濕和胃〕 zào shī hé wèi

Also drying dampness and harmonizing the center. A method of treatment used to treat damp turbidity obstructing the spleen and causing spleen-stomach disharmony manifesting in glomus and fullness in the stomach duct and abdomen, belching and acid swallowing, vomiting and diarrhea, reduced eating and fatigue, a bland taste in the mouth, and thick slimy tongue fur.

Medicinal therapy: Drying dampness and harmonizing the center makes use of warm acrid dampness-drying, aromatic turbidity-transforming, and heat-clearing dampness-transforming medicinals such as atractylodes (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 苍朮 cāng zhú), officinal magnolia bark (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 厚朴 hòu pò), patchouli (Pogostemonis Herba, 藿香 huò xiāng), and cardamom (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, 白豆蔻 bái dòu kòu).

Representative formulas include Stomach-Calming Powder (平胃散 píng wèi sǎn) and Patchouli Qì-Righting Powder (藿香正气散 huò xiāng zhèng qì sǎn).
