Draining fire and extinguishing wind

泻火熄风 〔瀉火熄風〕xiè huǒ xī fēng

Also clearing heat and extinguishing wind. A method of treatment used to address extreme heat engendering wind (repletion heat), i.e., convulsions, upturned eyes, rigid neck, or, in severe cases, arched-back rigidity and clouded spirit in high fever.

Medicinal therapy: Fire-draining wind-extinguishing medicinals uncaria (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis, 钩藤 gōu téng), earthworm (Pheretima, 地龙 dì lóng), scorpion (Scorpio, 全蝎 quán xiē), centipede (Scolopendra, 蜈蚣 wú gōng), crude abalone shell (Haliotidis Concha Cruda, 生石决明 shēng shí jué míng), crude oyster shell (Ostreae Concha Cruda, 生牡蛎 shēng mǔ lì), coptis (Coptidis Rhizoma, 黄连 huáng lián), and isatis leaf (Isatidis Folium, 大青叶 dà qīng yè).

Acumoxatherapy: Base treatment mainly on GV, GB, and LR. Select GV-20 (Hundred Convergences, 百会 bǎi huì), GB-20 (Wind Pool, 风池 fēng chí), LR-3 (Supreme Surge, 太冲 tài chōng), GV-14 (Great Hammer, 大椎 dà zhuī), LI-11 (Pool at the Bend, 曲池 qū chí), PC-8 (Palace of Toil, 劳宫 láo gōng), HT-8 (Lesser Mansion, 少府 shào fǔ), and Twelve Well Points (十二井穴 shí èr jǐng xué); needle with drainage or pricking to bleed.
