GB-33 Knee Yáng Joint
膝阳关 〔膝陽關〕 xī yáng guān
Alternate names: 关陵 guān líng, Joint Mound; 关阳 guān yáng, Joint Yang; 寒府 hán fǔ, Cold House; 阳陵 yáng líng, Yang Mound
Channel: GB, foot lesser yáng (shào yáng) gallbladder channel
Modern location: An acupoint located on the lateral side of the knee, in the space that forms proximal to the lateral condyle of the tibia when the knee is bent about ninety degrees. the depression is superior to the biceps femoris tendon and inferior to the lateral condyle of the femur.
Classical location: Three cùn above Yáng Mound Spring (GB-34), in the depression lateral to Calf’s Nose (ST-35). From
Local anatomy: The superior lateral genicular artery and vein. The terminal branch of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.
Action: Dispels wind and disperses cold; soothes the sinews, quickens the network vessels, and relieves pain.
Modern indications: Painful swelling of the knee; hypertonicity of the popliteal sinews; numbness and tingling of the lower leg.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 5‒15 min.
