Numbness and tingling
麻木 〔麻木〕má mù
Loss of normal sensation in the skin and flesh. Numbness mù is described as the absence of itching or pain insensitive to pressure. Tingling má is classically described as bugs crawling in the flesh
unrelieved by pressure. See numbness and tingling of the skin.
Etymology
Chin 麻 má, hemp, flax, linen (possibly from the feeling that linen produces on the skin); 木 mù, wood (probably from its being symbolic of insensitivity).
