GB-29 Squatting Bone-Hole

居髎 〔居髎〕jū liáo

Channel: GB, Foot Lesser Yáng (shào yáng) Gallbladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lateral aspect of the hip, in the body of the tensor fascia lata muscle, midway between the anterior superior iliac spine (asis) and the prominence of the greater trochanter.

Classic location: Eight cùn and three fēn below Camphorwood Gate (LR-13), in the depression above the ilium. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: Branches of the superficial circumflex iliac artery and vein, the ascending branches of the lateral circumflex femoral artery and vein. The lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.

Action: Soothes the sinews and quickens the network vessels; strengthens the lumbus and legs.

Modern indications: Lumbar pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì) of the lower limbs; mounting qì (shàn qì, inguinal hernia).

Classic indications: Diarrhea; cold mounting (hán shàn).

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 5‒10 cones; pole 10‒30 min.

Needle sensation: Numbness and distension that can spread to the hip joint.

Point groups: Intersection point (jiāo huì xué) of the gallbladder channel and the yáng springing vessel (yáng qiāo mài).
