Actions and indications:

• Kills worms and disperses accumulation: Worm accumulation with abdominal pain.
• Frees the stool: Constipation from intestinal dryness.
• Moistens the lung: Lung dryness cough.
• Additional uses: Fěi zǐ has recently been used to treat filariasis. For this purpose, it is combined with Xuè yú tàn (血余炭 Crinis Carbonisatus, charred hair), pulverized, and combined with honey to form pills. It is taken in 1–2 courses of treatment, with 4 days of use constituting one course of treatment.

Dosage and method: Oral: 15–30g raw in decoctions. Alternatively, it can be stir-fried and then chewed, taking 15g at a time.

Warnings: Unsuitable in cases with thin sloppy stool. It is contraindicated in cough due to lung heat with phlegm. While taking it, the patient should not eat lǜ dòu (Phaseoli Radiati Semen).

Quality: Large undamaged seeds with thin husks and yellowish white kernels not exuding oil are the best.
