Properties: Acrid; warm.

Channel entry: Liver, kidney, spleen, stomach channels.

Actions and indications:

• Disperses cold and relieves pain: Cold mounting (hán shàn) abdominal pain, sagging of one testicle with distension and pain, cold pain in the lesser abdomen, and menstrual pain.
• Rectifies qì and harmonizes the center: Patterns of vacuity cold and qì stagnation in the center burner.

Dosage and method: Oral: 3–6g in decoctions; also used externally.

Warnings: Use xiǎo huí xiāng with care in yīn vacuity with effulgent fire.

Quality: The best quality is dry, greenish yellow, and aromatic.

Production area: Mainly produced in Shānxī, Gānsū, Liáoníng, Inner Mongolia, but widely cultivated throughout the China.
