Alternate Chinese names: Shí gāo zhī mǔ guì zhī tāng (石膏知母桂枝汤 Gypsum, Anemarrhena, and Cinnamon Twig Decoction)

Ingredients

• Shēng shí gāo (生石膏 Gypsum Crudum, crude gypsum) 15g
• Zhī mǔ (知母 Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, anemarrhena [root]) 5g
• Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 2g
• Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 8g
• Guì zhī (桂枝 Cinnamomi Ramulus, cinnamon twig) 2–4g

Actions: Clears evil heat; frees the channels.

Indications: (a) Warm malaria characterized by heat effusion without aversion to cold, and joint pain, and periodic vomiting and retching; (b) heat impediment (rè bì); (c) High fever in the summer with vexation and thirst, sweating and aversion to wind.
