Point name meaning:

The breath (气 ) passes by the area of ST-11. The rendering of the name Qì Abode brings to mind the point’s location beside the trachea.

Therapeutically, ST-11 is employed in treating qì ascent cough. This may be viewed as if the stomach were giving its qì to aid the lung, because in Chinese medical theory, it is the stomach that provides qì for the lung (earth engenders metal). In this sense, Qì Bestowal might be an appropriate rendering of the point name.

As a further note, it should be pointed out that the functions of stomach channel points 11 through 16 and 18 are primarily associated with their location in relation to the chest and lung. The point names reflect these associations through the metaphor of the chest as a house. The house has a window, roof, door, and storeroom, while ST-11 represents the abode itself.
