BL-66 (Foot) Valley Passage

通谷(足) 〔通谷(足)〕 tōng gǔ (zú)

Alternate names: 足通谷 zú tōng gǔ, Foot Valley Passage

Channel: BL, foot greater yáng (tài yáng) bladder channel; shared point on the thoroughfare (chōng) vessel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lateral aspect of the little toe, in a depression just distal to the fifth metatarsophalangeal (mtp) joint.

Classical location: n the outer side of the small toe, in the depression in front of the base joint. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The plantar digital artery and vein. The plantar digital proprial nerve and the lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve of the foot.

Action: Disperses wind and clears heat; settles fright and quiets the spirit.

Modern indications: Headache; stiff nape; dizzy vision; nosebleed; mania and withdrawal.

Classical indications: Fullness in the chest; cough and panting; nontransformation of grain and water (undigested food in the stool); susceptibility to fright; mania and withdrawal.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.2 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 5‒20 min.

Point groups: Spring (yíng) (water) point.
