Use: Medicinal

Properties: Bitter and acrid; cool.

Channel entry: Spleen, stomach, lung, and kidney channels.*

Actions and indications: Clears heat and disperses phlegm; cools the blood and resolves toxin. Treats painful pharynx; throat impediment (hóu bì); cough; vomiting of blood (blood ejection); nosebleed (nǜ xuè); bleeding from incised wounds; swollen welling-abscesses (yōng zhǒng) due to heat toxin; scrofula.

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (9–15g) or use in pills and powders. Topical: Crush or grind and sprinkle on the affected area.
