Use: Medicinal

Properties: Acrid; balanced; nontoxic.

Channel entry: Lung, liver, heart, and spleen channels.

Actions and indications: Cools the blood and stanches bleeding; transforms phlegm and calms panting; disinhibits water and disperses swelling. Treats vomiting of blood (blood ejection); nosebleed (nǜ xuè); prolapse of the rectum; descent of blood; phlegm cough; wheezing and panting; jaundice; water swelling; strangury; vaginal discharge; scalds.

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (9–15g). Topical: Apply crushed or powdered.

Production area: Produced in the south-western and southern China, as well as in Zhèjiāng, Jiāngxī, Húběi, and Shǎnxī (Shaanxi).
