牛西西 〔牛西西〕 niú xī xī

Use: Medicinal

Properties: Bitter and sour; cold.

Actions and indications: Clears heat and resolves toxin; quickens the blood and stanches bleeding; frees stool; kills worms. Treats dysentery; hepatitis; chronic enteritis; injury from knocks and falls; internal bleeding; thrombocytopenia; bound stool; welling-abscesses (yōng), sores, scab (jiè) and lichen (xiǎn); burns and scalds.

Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (9–15g) Topical: Apply crushed; apply ground and blended with liquid.

Production area: Inner Mongolia, Héběi, Shānxī, Hénán, Shǎnxī (Shaanxi), Gānsū, and Qīnghǎi.
