Properties: Bitter; cold.

Indications:
- Clears heat and transforms phlegm; moistens the lung and relieves cough: Cough from wind-heat or phlegm-heat.
- Disperses phlegm and binds: Scrofula; goiter; toxin swelling of welling-abscesses and
sore s; pulmonary welling-abscess.
Dosage & Method:
Oral: 3–10g in decoctions.
Warning:
Zhè bèi mǔ is traditionally said to clash with wū tóu (Aconitum), i.e., chuān wū (Aconiti Radix), cǎo wū (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix). It is contraindicated in cold phlegm or damp phlegm.
Quality:
Thick leaves that are white on the outer and cut surfaces and farinaceous in texture are the best.
