Properties: Bitter and acrid; balanced.

Actions and indications: Clears heat and resolves toxin; transforms phlegm and disperses binds; dispels stasis and disperses swellings. Treats swollen welling-abscesses (yōng zhǒng); clove sores (dīng); scrofula; throat moth; injury from knocks and falls; snake bites.
Dosage and method: Oral: Decoct (6–12g); can be ground to a powder. Topical: Apply crushed or ground to a powder and apply blended with liquid; can also be steeped in wine.
