Use: Medicinal

Properties: Acrid; warm; nontoxic.

Actions and indications: Clears heat and resolves toxin; moistens the lung and relieves cough. Treats lung heat cough in children (combine with mulberry leaf, fritillaria, and platycodon, or in recovery stage with raw rehmannia, ophiopogon and trichosanthes root). Can also be applied topically to burst pox sores, and burns and scalds.

Dosage and method: 6–9g.

Quality: Plump unopen buds with yellow hearts are the best.

Production area: Zhèjiāng, Jiāngsū, Héběi.
