Amber Spirit-Quieting Decoction
琥珀安神汤 〔琥珀安神湯〕 hǔ pò ān shén tāng

Ingredients
- Hǔ pò (琥珀 Succinum , amber) 9g
- Zhū shā gēn (朱砂根 Ardisiae Crenatae Radix, coral ardisia [root]) 9g
- Lóng gǔ (龙骨 Mastodi Ossis Fossilia, dragon bone) 15g
- Jú huā (菊花 Chrysanthemi Flos, chrysanthemum [flower]) 12g
- Sāng yè (桑叶 Mori Folium, mulberry leaf) 9g
Actions: Quiets the spirit with
Indications: Injury from knocks and falls of the head with loss of consciousness; bleeding from the nose or mouth; headache and dizziness.
Method: Grind the amber and cinnabar finely; take infused in a decoction of the other agents.
Dosage: Divide one lot into three doses to be taken in one day.
Rationale: Hǔ pò is the sovereign agent since it quiets the heart and spirit, cools the blood, and disperses stasis. Zhū shā and Lóng gǔ are heavy settling spirit-quieting agents. Sāng yè and Jú huā course wind and clear heat.
