甘露饮 〔甘露飲〕gān lù yǐn

Ingredients:
- Shēng dì huáng (生地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Exsiccata seu Recens, dried/fresh rehmannia [root]) 2.5g
- Shú dì huáng (熟地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, cooked rehmannia [root]) 2.5g
- Tiān dōng (天冬 Asparagi Radix, asparagus [root]) 2.5g
- Mài dōng (麦冬 Ophiopogonis Radix, ophiopogon [root]) 2.5g
- Shí hú (石斛 Dendrobii Herba, dendrobium) 2.5g
- Yīn chén (茵陈 Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, virgate wormwood) 2.5g
- Huáng qín (黄芩 Scutellariae Radix, scutellaria [root]) 2.5g
- Zhǐ ké (qiào) (枳壳 Aurantii Fructus, bitter orange) 2.5g
- Pí pá yè (枇杷叶 Eriobotryae Folium, loquat leaf) 2.5g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 2.5g
Action: Nourishes yīn, clears heat, and engenders liquid.
Indication: Damage to yīn by evil heat with signs such as heat vexation, thirst, fetid mouth odor, mouth and tongue sores,

Rationale: Raw and Shú dì huáng enrich yīn and supplement the kidney. Mài dōng, Tiān dōng, and Shí hú clear and nourish the lung and stomach. These five agents invigorate water to douse the fire. Huáng lián and Gān cǎo clear heat and drain fire; they help where fire flaming upward indicates that vacuity is complicated by repletion. Yīn chén course qì, and enables the supplementing agents to enrich yīn without cloggy the stomach; it also clears heat and disinhibits water, conducting fire downward. Pí pá yè is a bitter draining and qì-downbearing agent that also helps to conduct the fire downward.
