Source: Yī Fāng Jí Jié 医方集解

Alternate Chinese names: Yī mén hēi xī dān (医门黑锡丹 Gateway to Medicine Galenite Elixir); 黑锡丹(二)

Ingredients

Actions: Warms the kidney, promotes qì absorption, and calms panting.

Indications: (a) Dizziness due to abnormal upbearing and downbearing of yīn and yáng creating a condition of upper body exuberance with lower body vacuity; (b) panting with phlegm rale due to cold vacuity and failure of the kidney to absorb qì.

Method: Ingredients in equal proportions.

Rationale: Galenite downbears qì and phlegm-drool, while Liú huáng supplements the kidney fire and disperses yīn cold, and promotes the kidney's function of absorbing qì. This formula was mentioned in the Medical Formulas Gathered and Explained (yī fāng jí jiě) simply as heixidan, but is now called èr wèi hēi xī dān (二味黑锡丹 Two-Ingredient Galenite Elixir)or Gateway to Medicine Galenite Elixir (医门黑锡丹 yī mén hēi xí dān) to distinguish it from another formula by the same name. See heixidan.
