Bupleurum Liver-Clearing Decoction1

Ingredients
- Chái hú (柴胡 Bupleuri Radix, bupleurum [root]) 4.5g
- Huáng qín (黄芩 Scutellariae Radix, scutellaria [root]) 3g
- Shēng dì huáng (生地黄 Rehmanniae Radix Exsiccata seu Recens, dried/fresh rehmannia [root]) 4.5g
- Dāng guī (当归 Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese angelica) 6g
- Chì sháo (赤芍 Paeoniae Radix Rubra, red peony [root]) 4.5g
- Chuān xiōng (川芎 Chuanxiong Rhizoma, chuanxiong [rhizome]) 3g
- Zhī zǐ (栀子 Gardeniae Fructus, gardenia [fruit]) 4.5g
- Tiān huā fěn (天花粉 Trichosanthis Radix, trichosanthes root) 3g
- Fáng fēng (防风 Saposhnikoviae Radix, saposhnikovia) 3g
- Niú bàng zǐ (牛蒡子 Arctii Fructus, arctium [seed]) 4.5g
- Lián qiào (连翘 Forsythiae Fructus, forsythia [fruit]) 6g
- Gān cǎo (甘草 Glycyrrhizae Radix, licorice [root]) 3g
Actions: Drains fire and resolves toxin; courses the liver and fortifies the spleen.
Indications: Initial-stage sores on the greater yáng channel on the head; fire toxin bind characterized by severe headache, reddening of the cheeks, fetid mouth odor, tinnitus, deafness, heart vexation, insomnia, coughing of thick phlegm, and reddish urine. Pulse: Stringlike and rapid.
Method: Decoct with water.
