Pig's Stomach Gruel
白朮猪肚粥 〔白朮豬肚粥〕 bái zhú zhū dǔ zhōu

Ingredients
- Bái zhú (白朮 Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, white atractylodes [root]) 30g
- Dà fù pí (大腹皮 Arecae Pericarpium, areca husk) 10g
- Zhū dǔ (猪肚 Suis Stomachus, pig’s stomach) 1 piece
- Shēng jiāng (生姜 Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, fresh ginger)
- Jīng mǐ (粳米 Oryzae Semen, non-glutinous rice) 60g
Actions: Supplements the center and boosts qì; fortifies the spleen and harmonizes the stomach.
Indications: Spleen-stomach qì vacuity, indigestion, no thought of food and drink, fatigue and scantness of breath, abdominal vacuity distension, diarrhea with ungratifying defecation.
Method: Clean and dice the pig's stomach, and boil with the white atractylodes, areca, and ginger. Strain, add rice, and continue boiling to make a gruel. Serve the intestines separately with sesame oil.
Rationale: Bái zhú is sweet and slight bitter, as is warm in nature. It enters the spleen and stomach channels. It is good for reduced eating, thin sloppy stool, indigestion, and vacuity distension. Pig's stomach is supplements vacuity and fortifies the stomach and spleen. Bīng láng precipitates qì helping to relieve distension.
