Source: Qiǎn Tián Fāng Hán 浅田方函

Ingredients

• Jī gān (鸡肝 Galli Iecur, chicken’s liver)
• Shān yào (山药 Dioscoreae Rhizoma, dioscorea [root])

Indications: Constitutionally weak patients with night blindness and vitamin a deficiency.

Method: Boil liver until cooked, then dry and grind with 2–3 times the weight of dioscorea.

Rationale: Chicken's liver is slightly warm and supplements the liver and kidney. It is specifically noted for its ability to treat dim vision due to liver vacuity. Shān yào secures the kidney and boosts essence as well as fortifying the spleen. It therefore treats root of former heaven and the root of later heaven.
