Indications: Heat in both the lung and large intestine with upper body signs such as hasty rapid panting, and copious phlegm-drool, and lower body signs such as constipation. General signs include
Method: Decoct with water.
Rationale: Shí gāo clears lung and stomach heat. Guā lóu loosens the chest and disinhibits qì, as well as clearing heat and transforming phlegm. Xìng rén diffuses and downbears lung qì. Dà huáng is cold, bitter, and precipitating, and hence addresses the large intestinal heat bind. The lung and large intestine stand in interior-exterior relationship; hence the freeing of lung qì helps to free the stool, and the freeing of the stool helps to free lung qì.
