Halite Decoction

戎盐汤 〔戎鹽湯〕 róng yán tāng

Ingredients

Indications: Kidney vacuity toothache.

Method: Decoct with water.

Rationale: Róng yán is cold and salty, and enters kidney channel. It cools the blood, and is used for bleeding or ulceration of the eyelids and mouth. It is also specifically indicated for toothache. Dì gǔ pí is a cold sweet agent that clears heat and cools the blood. It commonly used to treat patterns involving kidney vacuity such as dispersion-thirst and vacuity taxation tidal heat effusion. Shēng dì huáng is cool and both sweet and bitter. Entering the liver an kidney channels, it enriches yīn and nourishes the blood, and eliminates vacuity fire. Xì xīn, more commonly used for lung and nose problems, is used here because it enters the kidney and has a dispersing effect.
