Indications: Food stagnation with putrid belching and acid swallowing, distension and oppression in the stomach duct and abdomen, and diarrhea.

Method: Crush, decoct, and strain the medicated leaven, and boil the rice with the decoction.

Rationale: Shén qū is made by crushing sweet fresh wormwood, fresh Cāng ěr zǐ, fresh smartweed/water pepper,XX Chì xiǎo dòu, and Xìng rén, and then mixing this with bran and wheat flour. The mixture is then allowed to ferment and dried. It is warm, sweet and acrid. It enters the spleen channels, fortifies the spleen, disperses food and harmonizes the center. It is commonly used in medicinal therapy to treat food stagnation, often in combination with Mài yá and Shān zhā. Those two agents may therefore be added to this recipe if for a more powerful action. According to modern research, Shén qū contains vitamin B complex, compound enzymes, ergosterine, protein, and fats. [68]yzlf
